    Living Earth Uganda supports development of supplementary modules on health and safety at work; employment rights; etc to complement ongoing vocational and skills training courses.

    This increases awareness and understanding amongst the current and potential workforce of relevant rights, dissemination of knowledge to wider stakeholder group; greater confidence and capacity amongst stakeholders to hold employers to account and, adherence to regulation at policy level by industry employers.

    Living Earth Uganda, for several years now, has been delivering functional skills training to several communities in a number of areas to enable them diversify business enterprises and create employment and incomes sources.

    These areas have been majorly determined by the availability of the market and profitability of the products to enhance achieving better standards of living amongst the beneficiaries. Some of the functional skill areas include:

  • Humanitarian Programs

    Living Earth Uganda values the need for hands-on experience for tertially institution students.

    Recently LEU established an internship, apprenticeship and work experience programme in Hoima, Buliisa and Masindi providing places for 1,500 youths.

    This has lead to receipt of first-hand working experience for the youths, improved understanding of professional context and requirements amongst youth, improved understanding of potential workforce amongst employers and, increased access to long-term employment for participating youth.

    Skills Training

    VOCATIONAL & TECHNICAL SKILLS

    Living Earth Uganda works to design and deliver training programmes that build capacity of instructors from vocational training institutions (VTIs) in the country. For instance, recently LEU implemented the same in Bulisa, Hoima and Masindi districts under its Jobs & oil project.

    This is key to increased confidence and capacity amongst instructors from VTIs, enhanced delivery of vocational training and improved learning experience for students.

  • Water, Sanitation & Hygiene

    LEU has extended its frontiers to supports eco enterprise development. This is done through the development of a cadre of rural enterprises in communities that border protected areas including national parks, forest and wildlife reserves.

    A case in point is Hoima, Bulisa and Masindi districts where the enterprises will receive training to improve their business management skills and to identify and develop projects for which funds from the Revenue Sharing Agreements offered by Uganda Wildlife Authority can be invested.
