Under Living Earth’s the Waste to Wealth Project, entrepreneurs of Micro and Small Enterprises acquired Business Development Skills through a programme accredited by the Open College Network of London (OCN) known as the African Urban Enterprise Development Programme (AUEDP) The training programme which was launched in March 2012 and completed in September, 2012, was delivered by Makerere University Business School (MUBS). 78 learners successfully completed the course and Living Earth Uganda organized a Graduation and Certificate award ceremony to crown this achievement.
The certificate award ceremony was held on 15th March, 2013 at Fairway Hotel in Kampala. This function included an exhibition Micro and Small Enterprises dealing in various waste to wealth business and other environmental business show cased their products. Exhibits included; charcoal briquettes from organic waste alongside briquette making machines, energy saving stoves, fireless cookers, handcrafts from plastic materials and nursery plants grown using compost organic manure. Cleaning companies also show cased their company profiles.
The ceremony was officiated by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Local Government who handed over certificates to the learners. In his speech, he was delighted to be associated with LEU which strives to improve the livelihoods of urban slum dwellers through technologies that are very profitable, energy saving and also environmentally friendly. He said,” This is indeed what our people need,” literally meaning that the ventures LEU is engaged in should be tapped into.
