The “Burning Waste Not Wood” project was designed to promote the use of briquettes as a sustainable alternative to charcoal derived from wood and to encourage the adoption of energy-saving stoves in Kampala. By introducing these eco-friendly alternatives, the project aimed to help households, communities, and institutions reduce their fuel costs while simultaneously contributing to climate change mitigation.
Targeting charcoal sellers in the trading centers and markets of Kampala, as well as their urban poor customers, the project focused on reaching the city’s poorest residents. By shifting to briquettes, these communities could benefit from a cost-effective and environmentally friendly fuel source, setting a practical example for sustainable living and climate action in Kampala.
