Mr. Oyungi Stephen, a beneficiary for crop and Livestock

Mr. Oyungi expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the AgSS project implemented by Living Earth Uganda. In his words he said “I joined the project in 2022, and I received cassava cuttings, maize and ground nut seeds. Later I was also given pasture seeds, and a Boer (male) and Nanny (female) goats.

Before, we used to grow traditional crops which would take long to harvest, and they would give us very low yields. Same was with the traditional goats that were very cheap, each at Ugx. 100,000 compared to the improved project goats that can fetch up to at Ugx. 300,000 in the market.

With the project, we have acquired training in modern agricultural methods including: planting cassava horizontally which allows the nodes to reproduce up to 18-20 tubers contrary to vertical planting where nodes would give between 1-2 tubers. I have also been able to build and keep my goats in a well-constructed shade. This shade ensures good hygiene for the animals. I also supplement their feeding with the planted pasture. We also learnt in the training to deworm at least once in three months to keep our animals healthy. I am now able to make sales from the extra pasture from my garden, and the sale of the off-springs of the Boer goats.”
