The Petroleum Authority of Uganda’s Executive Director Mr. Ernest Rubondo has hailed Living Earth Uganda’s efforts in the restoration of livelihoods of Project Affected Persons in the Albertine region.
Mr. Rubondo said this during the field visits he made to the various demonstration gardens in Avogera village Ngwedo Sub- County Buliisa district in company of the team from TotalEnergies , ATACAMA, and Ministry of Energy and minerals.
He was particularly elated by the technologies being demonstrated at the gardens by some of the improved crop varieties that are being given to projected Affected persons, and households in the Albertine region.
“I am particularly excited to see the performance of these varieties especially, NAROCASE against local varieties in terms of spacing and disease resistance” He noted as he went on to challenge the team to support beneficiaries and the communities through, the value chain of the various crops they are growing, especially cassava.
“I urge you to support these Project Affected households [PAHs] through the entire value chain, especially Cassava which in the end enables them to improve on their household income levels”.
During the visit, Mr. Swithern Tumwine, the Living Earth Project Manager, reiterated Living Earth Uganda team’s commitment to ensure that lives of those affected by the project are restored to full potential. He supplemented that there is need to invest in the agro-processing equipment for PAHs to enable them add value to their crops especially, cassava.
Living Earth Uganda (LEU) was contracted by TotalEnergies EP Uganda B.V, the lead developer of the Tilenga project area, to implement the Provision of Agricultural Support Services project for the period thirty-six (36) month effective March 2022 to support farmers access and utilise good agronomical practices so as to improve their household income levels.
The project is being implemented in Tilenga Project RAPs 2 – 5 covering a total of 56 villages, 8 sub-counties administratively rearranged into 69 villages and 12 sub-counties. A total of 4,901 PAPs (3,990 households) will benefit from the project.
