The Boer Buck: A Tale of Blessing and Community Prosperity

In Kyebagira village, there is a remarkable happening that is changed lives. The Boer buck arrived, not just an ordinary goat, but a symbol of transformation.

Edson Kalibala remembers the day vividly. On December 10th, 2022, his wedding day, the Boer buck was delivered by Living Earth – LEU. This goat was special, known for crossbreeding that would bring positive change.

Soon after its arrival, amazing things started to happen. Within seven months, the Boer buck had offspring—sixteen of them! This blessing spread beyond Edson’s farm, touching neighbors’ lives too.

Before the Boer buck, Edson’s goats usually gave birth to one kid at a time. But now, twins became the norm. The impact reached even further, with sixteen other goats in the community expecting, all thanks to the Boer buck. In just more than half a year, Edson’s dream of having more thirty goats on his farm seemed possible.

Polly Nagaba from Living Earth Uganda explains that the Boer buck’s purpose is to mix the strengths of different goat breeds, creating an improved breed of animals that can increase people’s incomes.

Edson’s joy is evident. His income has changed dramatically. He recollects, “Once, I would part with five of my indigenous goats to earn a million shillings, yet today, guided by LEU’s vision, I part with just two goats, each valued at 500,000 shillings.” The Boer buck’s legacy manifests not only in numbers but also in prosperity redefined.

This transformation started with a desire to improve traditional animal rearing practices. Living Earth Uganda recognized the potential in people affected by the Tilenga oil project. The Boer buck came as a game-changer, shifting old ways to new progress. Training and support made success stories possible.

Edson is not just a goat farmer, but also a beacon of unity as the entire village comes to him for cross breeding. The Boer buck’s legacy goes beyond his farm, uniting the community’s destiny.

This success story is part of a bigger effort by Living Earth Uganda, supported by Total Energies, to restore livelihoods. The seeds planted by this project have grown into lives changed, spirits lifted, and destinies transformed. The Boer buck’s tale is one of unity, collaboration, and the power to turn fortunes around.
