The cassava harvesting season is around the corner for many of our project-affected households [PAHs], and the Agriculture Support Service Project (AgricSSP) project is aiming to support them in adding value to their cassava harvests using cassava chipping machines.
“With funding from @TotalEnergiesUG, the project will supply 100 chippers starting with 20 for batch one to enable farmers to effectively manage the post-harvest handling process of their cassava harvests,” says Nganda Philmon, the senior Agronomist (post-harvest, value addition and market linkages) at @LivingEarthUG.
Collins Opio, the Project Manager at TotalUG expressed optimism in this investment saying it will facilitate households to improve their income.
“With this machine, which has a capacity of producing 700 kg of swet cassava chips with efficiency of less than a litter of fuel, will support farmers to dry their produce faster, market ,and increase their house-hold income”, Opio said.
At least 3990 households with a population of 4901 project affected persons (PAPs) located in 56 villages and 8 sub counties of Buliisa, Hoima and Kikuube districts have been organised in farmer groups and will benefit from these machines.
This cassava value addition intervention under the Provision of Agricultural Support Services Project [AgricSSP], is aimed at uplifting the lives of those affected by Oil and Gas development activities in the Albertine region.
